In January & February of 2007, Art for Change presents “BarrioBeats: Sureando,” which will cast its eyes to the South American continent to better explore some of its rich musical traditions. From Brazil to Ecuador, from Uruguay to Peru and Colombia, Art for Change will look at the influence that African roots have had on the continent’s musical legacy. BarrioBeats is a program of Art for Change that presents live music featuring emerging and established Latino musicians performing a wide range of musical traditions and styles, revealing the diversity of Latinos in New York City. The program is funded in part by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council
